Toddler Keeps A Fever

Why does my 3 year old get sick (just keeps a fever). A few days after he finishes his antibiotic? For a while 3 weeks ago he had a 103 to 104 fever that Tylenol or motrin would not touch. Now for the third consective week, after he finished his antibotic 4 days ago, he has been fine and playful even last night, he wakes up this morning with a 101 fever and lethargic. No complaints that any thing hurts, just a fever and and very lethargic. Why?

Toddler Fever NEW
by: Ingrid Lee from TAF

Hi and thanks for your question. It is typical for children to have a fever after they finish a round of antibiotics. However 103- 104 degrees is very high and not common. If motrin and tylenol are not working that is a concern. I would recommend that you take your toddler to the pediatrician and get a check over.

With a fever that high and lethargy, seizures and other things can occur and we do not want that. It is better to be safe than sorry.

In some cases children may experience fevers because of teething, infections and some times for no reason at all. With the frequency of his fevers and the high numbers, the doctor should be involved immediately. Please keep me updated and I wish you well....

Blessings!
Ingrid Lee
